8-Hour Refresher Training

The 8-hour refresher training provides workers with the necessary knowledge and skills to work in hazardous waste removal sites. The in-person refresher training covers topics such as:

  • hazard recognition,

  • toxicology,

  • chemical properties,

  • fire and explosion hazards,

  • site safety and health practices,

  • emergency response plans,

  • spill control programs,

  • container sampling procedures, and

  • decontamination procedures.

The course also includes hands-on exercises and demonstrations of:

  • air sampling and monitoring equipment,

  • selection, use, and limitations of personal protective equipment, including respirators

  • the proper preparation of containers for shipping and transport

  • communication methods while wearing respiratory protection

  • establishing exposure zones, decontamination.

    The course is in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120 and Cal/OSHA Title 8, Section 5192 and is suitable for refreshing a 40-hour Hazardous Waste Site Worker and/or 24-hour HAZMAT Technician certificate of training. Must hold a current certificate within 18 months of the last training date.
