24-Hour HAZMAT Technician
In-Person
This three-day class includes classroom and field settings, during which students will take notes, take tests, and perform hands-on practicals involving respirators and chemical suits.
Hybrid
This class combines online and in-person learning. Students must complete 16 hours of online content before attending the 8-hour hands-on portion of the course. Participating in hands-on practicals is expected to receive the final training certificate.
Hands-On Only
This hands-on training is designed for those who have completed an alternative online HAZWOPER training and want hands-on training to learn donning and doffing PPE and simulate spill response and clean-up. A certificate of hands-on training will be provided upon completion, but it will not be a HAZMAT Technician certificate.
The 24-hour Hazmat Technician course provides students with the necessary knowledge and skills to respond to hazardous material incidents. Students will learn how to assess the risks associated with different types of hazardous materials and safely contain and stop spills or leaks.
The classroom training covers topics such as:
hazard recognition,
toxicology,
chemical properties,
fire and explosion hazards,
site safety and health practices,
emergency response plans, and
decontamination procedures.
The course also includes hands-on exercises and demonstrations of:
air sampling and monitoring equipment,
spill control programs
selection, use, and limitations of personal protective equipment, including respirator
communication methods while wearing respiratory protection
establishing exposure zones, and decontamination.
donning and doffing Level A, B, and C ensembles.
This course is in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120 (q) and Cal/OSHA Title 8, Section 5192 (q) and is suitable for HAZMAT Technicians who respond to hazardous substance releases with the aim of stopping the release, such as emergency spill response teams.
Current 24-Hour HAZMAT Technician Courses Offered
This course is both online and in person. To obtain a certificate of completion, you must participate in the in-person training scheduled on May 13, following the completion of the online training without any exceptions.
After registering for the class, you will receive your login credentials within three business days to access the online training. Completing this online portion is mandatory before attending the in-person course; failure to do so will prevent your attendance.
